Punjab Kings Playing 11 vs SRH- IPL 2024, Match 23

Punjab Kings takes on Sunrisers Hyderabad in match 23 of IPL 2024 at the Mullanpur stadium in Chandigarh on April 9. The Kings will be playing for back to back games in Chandigarh starting off with this game.

Punjab Kings do not have a good record against SRH winning just seven out of the 21 matches against SRH. The Kings are heading into this game after winning a last-over thriller against Gujarat Titans in their last game.

Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma added a 43-run stand to take Punjab Kings to victory. The game was almost dead for the Kings but the the two Indian players ensured that they gave their side two points.

Punjsb KIngs have issues with their batters and bowlers despite the side winning the game. Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow are short of runs. Their middle-order is also inconsistent with the batters not sure of their batting positions.

PBKS are also thin on spin with Rahul Chahar not taking wickets at all. He did not play in the last game. Thus there is added pressure to perform for Harpreet Brar in every game that he plays. Harshal Patel has also not taken wickets in the death overs.

Shikhar Dhawan (C)

Dhawan will open the batting for Punjab Kings. He scored just one off two balls and was taken by Umesh Yadav against GT. He is closing in on 7000 IPL runs. The southpaw has scored 138 runs in the first four games.

Jonny Bairstow

Bairstow has been struggling since the Test series against India. He has been inconsistent in the first four games. Against GT, he scored 22 runs. He has just scored 81 runs with a best of 48.

Sam Curran

Curran will slot in at three. The Kings have been happy to promote Curran at three but the move has not paid off consistently. He scored just five against GT.

Sikandar Raza

Raza was brought in as a replacement for Liam Livingstone. He gives them an additional spin option. He scored 15 off 16 balls and bowled two overs.

Shashank Singh

Shashank Singh will slot in at five. He scored a brilliant 61 off 29 balls to win the previous game for the Kings against the Titans. He should be given a longer run after his match-winning innings.

Jitesh Sharma (WK)

Jitesh as the wicketkeeper-batter has not hit his strides so far. He has been all four games so far and has a best of 27. He is yet to score a fifty in the IPL and is specifically used in the final five overs.

Harpreet Brar

Brar can slot in at seven. So far he has bowled economic spells with the ball. So far this season he has picked up four wickets in four matches. He has picked up 22 wickets.

Harshal Patel

Harshal will bat at eight. He has not been used too much with the bat but has been expensive with the ball and has taken four wickets in four balls. He won the Purple Cap in 2021 having taken 32 wickets.

Arshdeep Singh

Arshdee Singh will be the lead Indian pacer. So far he has not been able to make an impact having taken just four wickets from four games. He has 61 wickets in the IPL overall at an economy of 8.77.

Kagiso Rabada

Rabadw will bring his international experience into the lineup. He has taken six wickets in four games so far in this season. Against GT, he took 2/44. He won the Purple Cap in IPL 2020.

Rahul Chahar

Chahar concludes the likely XI for Punjab Kings. He was benched in the last game as the Kings played an extra batter. He has struggled with the ball this season having taken just two wickets so far.

Impact Sub: Ashutosh Sharma

After his match-winning performance in the last game. Punjab Kings should continue using Ashutosh Sharma in the Impact Sub role. He scored 31 off 17 balls in the last game against GT.
