Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) go head to head in match 6 of IPL 2024 in Bengaluru on Monday. The match starts at 7.30 pm IST. This is the second game for both teams this season.
RCB is led by Faf du Plessis while Shikhar Dhawan is leading the Punjab Kings. He will be up against his former India teammate Virat Kohli who is fresh off a loss against Chennai Super Kings. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings defeated the Capitals by four wickets chasing down 175 to win.
The loss highlighted the persistent problems for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Chennai Super Kings. They are still a top-heavy batting unit with almost none barring Dinesh Karthik to bat in the middle-order. There are also problems with the bowling attack for the Bangalore side.
They play three out of their four remaining games at home and hence need to address their bowling woes ahead of their game against Punjab Kings. Lockie Ferguson, Alzarri Joseph, and Yash Dayal were the bowlers added to their ranks this season. Both the overseas pacers have higher economy rates in the IPL in their limited careers.
Shikhar Dhawan’s Punjab Kings have won three out of the last five games against RCB. However, it was RCB who won the previous game in Bengaluru last year. Dhawan has got a good core of players going at Punjab Kings and if everyone can play at their potential, they can indeed get the better of RCB at their home ground.
Both the teams have not won the IPL and have been the perennial underachievers in the tournament. While Bangalore has made it to the finals thrice, Punjab’s only IPL appearance was in 2014. Since then, the Kings have consistently finished sixth or below. Every tear both these two teams look good but fail to kick on and make the playoffs.
