Lyca Kovai Kings are playing in the TNPL since the inaugural season and are one of the most consistent teams in the competition's history. They have progressed ahead of the league stage in 7 of the 8 seasons so far and have also won the tournament twice.

In the first five seasons, they progressed to the playoffs four times but could not make it to the final. In the inaugural season, they won 4 of their 7 league games and qualified for the semifinals. Their campaign ended with a defeat to Chepauk Super Gillies in the second semifinal.

In the next season, Kovai Kings finished the league stage at the fourth spot and qualified for the playoffs. They beat Karaikudi Kaalai in the Eliminator before losing to eventual winners Chepauk Super Gillies in the second qualifier.

Kovai Kings qualified for the playoffs in 2018 as well. They finished the league stage at the third spot in the points table with 4 wins from 7 games. They won the Eliminator against Karaikudi Kaalai. Their campaign ended with a loss to Madurai Panthers in the second qualifier.

For the first time, Kovai Kings failed to qualify for the playoffs in 2019. They exited the tournament at the league stage after finishing at the fifth spot with 4 wins from 7 games.

After the 2020 season was cancelled owing to the pandemic, Kovai Kings qualified for the playoffs in 2021 as well but once again failed to advance to the final. They finished fourth in the points table before bowing out after a loss to Dindigul Dragons in the Eliminator.

In 2022, Kovai Kings finally made it to the final for the first time. They and defending champions Chepauk Super Gillies were adjudged the joint winners after the title-decider was washed out.

Kovai Kings went on to win the tournament in 2023 as well. They finished the league stage at the top of the table with 6 wins from 7 games. They beat Dindigul Dragons in the first qualifier before beating Nellai Royal Kings in the final. They qualified for the final in 2024 as well but suffered a loss against Dindigul Dragons in the title-decider.
