Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra believes that T20I captain Rohit Sharma and his deputy KL Rahul should always open the innings for the team in the shorter format of the game, and India should not think about left-right combinations.

Rohit Sharma-led have won the T20I series against New Zealand by 3-0. India won the first T20I game by 5 wickets on Wednesday, November 17, at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, they won the second T20I by 7 wickets at JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Friday, November 19, and India won the third game on the iconic Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Sunday, November 21 by 73 runs.

Notably, the opening duo of Rohit-Rahul had an amazing half-century partnership in the first T20I and a sensational 117 runs partnership in the second T20I. However, in the third game, Rahul was given rest, and Ishan Kishan opened the innings with Rohit, and they too had a 69 runs partnership.

Meanwhile, after India’s comfortable 3-0 series victory Aakash Chopra took to Twitter to list three takeaways from the series. The second major takeaway, according to Chopra, was the good performance of finger spinners in the T20I series, and he said that it’s completely fine for a left-arm spinner to bowl to the left-handed batsman.

The third and final takeaway picked by Aakash Chopra was the poor performance of the Indian middle-order batting unit, and he opined that it is far from sorted and will take time. Chopra on Twitter wrote:

Major takeaways from #IndvNZ series

Rohit-Rahul must always open. Don’t think of left-right or match-ups.

Finger spin can work in T20s. Ashwin-Axar-Santner. And it’s okay for LAS to bowl to LHB.

India’s middle-lower order far from sorted. Will take time.
