India is all set to take on New Zealand in a two-match test series at home and there might be a lot of surprises in the squad which is yet to be announced. The test series starts on November 25th and is likely to end by the 7th of December after which India is scheduled to travel to South Africa.

India might also be looking to rest Virat Kohli for the test series who has had a big workload in the last few months and he will need some time off. This will also mark the first assignment for Rahul Dravid as the official head coach of the Indian cricket team. Here are 3 Indian players who can retire from tests after the New Zealand series.

India vs New Zealand 2021: 3 Indian Players Who Can Retire From Tests After The New Zealand Series

Wriddhiman Saha:

Wriddhiman Saha is 37 years old at the moment and he is unlikely to feature in the Indian playing XI in tests with Rishabh Pant in the side. The left-hander was been at the peak of his form in the last six months and has kept Saha out of the playing XI for a long time.

Saha has been facing a lot of injury concerns as well in recent times and might have to start thinking about retirement. With Srikar Bharat showing signs of being an excellent wicket-keeping option, Saha should be well aware that he needs to keep scoring big runs whenever he gets an opportunity to hold his place in the squad. The series against New Zealand might be the one that Saha decides to retire after.

Amit Mishra:

Amit Mishra has been a huge performer in the domestic circuit in India and has represented India in 22 tests taking 76 wickets at an average of 35.7. The leg spinner has been around for a long time after making his international debut in 2003 and the 38-year-old is an active player for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL still.

He is unlikely to get a go in the test format again considering India has preferred left-arm spinners and he will have to face competition from Rahul Chahar and Yuzvendra Chahal to get his name in the squad. It is going to be a tough road for him again to feature in tests and should consider retiring from the format after the New Zealand series.

Dinesh Karthik has been playing the finisher role in the last few years for various franchises and he did manage to play the same role for India as well. He was picked up in the squad for the 2019 World cup but couldn’t use his opportunity and has not been part of the Indian squad after that.

The 36-year-old might make a comeback for India in T20 internationals, but is unlikely to be back in the Indian test squad as he hasn’t been keeping for Tamil Nadu in first-class cricket. He last played for the Men in Blue in the whites in the 2018 England tour and should consider his retirement from the format after the New Zealand series.
