Premier Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has achieved yet another enormous milestone in Test cricket in the second Test match of the two-match Test series against the New Zealand National Cricket Team at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday, December 5.
Ravichandran Ashwin now has 65 wickets in the India-New Zealand Test fixtures and he has equalled the record of all-round great Richard Hadlee for most wickets in Test games played between India and New Zealand.
Ashwin dismissed Veteran Kiwi batter Ross Taylor to complete the 65 wickets milestone in the India-New Zealand Test matches. Notably, Ashwin reached the 65 wickets mark in just 17 innings and on the other hand, Hadlee took 24 innings to reach this feat.
Also, Ravichandran Ashwin has picked 50 wickets in the purest format of the game in 2021 and has become the first player to reach this mark. The other bowlers who are close to 50 Test wickets in 2021 are Pakistan pacers Shaheen Shah Afridi with 44 scalps and Hasan Ali with 39 wickets under his belt.
Ravichandran Ashwin Puts India On Top In The Mumbai Test At The End Of Day 3
Ashwin picked three big wickets on Day 3 in New Zealand’s second innings. Chasing the big target of 540 runs skipper Tom Latham was dismissed by star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the 4th over and he was able to score only 6 runs off 15 balls. Then, Will Young and Daryl Mitchell had a decent partnership before the former was dismissed by Ravichandran Ashwin. Also, Veteran Kiwi batter Taylor once again failed and was dismissed by Ashwin.
Meanwhile, Daryl Mitchell and Henry Nicholls looked brilliant out in the middle and added amazing 73 runs off 111 deliveries. Axar Patel broke the Daryl-Henry partnership by dismissing Daryl Mitchell (60) in the 35th over. Also, Tom Blundell got run out on duck and At Stump’s New Zealand were at 140/5 with 400 runs needed to win.
