Kamran Akmal, the wicketkeeper-batter for Pakistan, believes that India is not a bad team despite having not won the ICC Trophy in ten years. Since winning the Champions Trophy in 2013 under MS Dhoni, the Men in Blue is yet to take home an ICC trophy.

However, Akmal believes that a great team is also judged by how they play cricket and how they develop players. He believes that India is far superior to other teams in all of these areas.

Speaking to Paktv.tv, Kamran Akmal cited the instances of nations like South Africa and New Zealand, which over the years have also faltered in important ICC tournament stages.

“People have mentioned that India has gone ten years without winning an ICC competition. Not every ICC competition can be won. Teams like New Zealand and South Africa should be dismissed if winning an ICC trophy is the only requirement because they haven’t done so. This is merely a pick, then. India is a fantastic team that competes at a higher level,” Kamran Akmal said.

Kamran Akmal took an indirect dig at the domestic system of Pakistan cricket:

Kamran Akmal also made an indirect dig at the domestic cricket organization in Pakistan by contrasting it to that in India. He believes that one of the primary factors contributing to India’s success was the fact that they avoided trying to change domestic cricket as Pakistan did by lowering the number of regional teams.

“They don’t have any individuals who come up with their own ideas and wreck domestic cricket. This is exactly what has been happening in Pakistan for the past 7-8 years, causing significant damage,” Kamran Akmal said.

The fact that India has swept both Sri Lanka and New Zealand in ODI matches this year suggests that their team is well-oiled. Whether they will be able to end their trophy drought by winning the 2023 World cup remains to be seen.
