IND vs NZ: Rohit Sharma Hilariously Trolls Ishan Kishan For Being Benched After Scoring Double Century

Indian captain Rohit Sharma teased Ishan Kishan by questioning why he didn’t get to play in the next three matches after reaching a double century against Bangladesh last month.

In response to Rohit’s query, Ishan delivered a surprising response that caused both of them and Shubman Gill to bust out laughing.

Shubman Gill joined the double centurion club in ODIs on Wednesday (January 18), becoming the most recent batsman to do so. Against New Zealand in the opening ODI of the three-match series in Hyderabad, the 23-year-old reached the milestone. In 50 overs of cricket, Gill is the fifth Indian and eighth hitter overall to record a double century.

For a total of 149 balls, he faced, he scored 208 runs. He hit 19 fours and nine sixes while he was at the crease. He broke Ishan Kishan’s record, who had done it last month at the age of 24, to become the youngest batter to make a double century in ODIs.

India defeated the Kiwis by 12 runs in the first game of the series thanks to Gill’s heroics. Ishan Kishan, who scored 210 against Bangladesh on December 10, 2022, and Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who has three double centuries to his credit in ODIs, welcomed Gill into the exclusive group of batters with 200 in ODI games following the completion of India vs. New Zealand first ODI.

In the course of the conversation, Rohit, who also holds the record for the highest individual score in ODIs (264) and is the only batter to record multiple double centuries, attempted to make fun of Ishan by asking the question of why he wasn’t given the chance to play the following three matches after scoring a double century the previous month.

“Ishan, 200 bana k teen match nahi khela yaar?” Rohit Sharma enquired, to which Ishan replied, “Bhaiya captain to AAP hai,” to which all three batsmen laughed out loud.

Ishan scored his first ODI double-century last month while batting first, but he was forced to switch to the bench once Rohit Sharma returned to the playing XI. In KL Rahul’s absence, he had the opportunity to bat at No. 4 against New Zealand after missing three matches against Sri Lanka last week.
