India skipper Rohit Sharma has now played 50 international innings without a century to his name. He came close to breaking the jinx when he scored 83 in the first ODI against Sri Lanka. In the third ODI as well he scored 42 and looked good to get his century before he was dismissed. India won the match by a mammoth 317 runs and completed a clean sweep.
Despite India winning the series handsomely, Gautam Gambhir feels that Rohit Sharma not scoring centuries is a problem for India. He scored his last ODI century in 2020 and his last international century against England in September 2021 at the Oval.

Gambhir talking to Star Sports compared Rohit’s situation with Kohli’s and said that the Indian skipper will be kicking himself after missing the two opportunities in the series.
“We should talk in the same phase. Virat Kohli didn’t get a hundred for three and a half years. I think Rohit should be kicking himself. It will be equally hard on Rohit Sharma as well. 50 innings are a lot, it’s not like he didn’t get a hundred in one or two games. If you look at the last (ODI) World Cup, one thing is missing from his game and it’s the ability to get those hundreds,” Gambhir said during the mid-innings show.
Gambhir further said that the Indian skipper needs to show the same hunger that of Virat Kohli who scored three ODI hundreds in his last four ODI innings.

“Rohit Sharma looks in good touch no doubt about that. However, he needs to convert these starts into big knocks. Virat has found his form, and now he needs to show the same hunger. His and Virat’s form will be key if India want to all the way this time,” he added.
Talking about Virat Kohli, he went for over three years without scoring an international century. He scored his maiden T20I ton against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2022 to end his century drought. Now he has found form in the top gear scoring three centuries in his last four ODI innings. Kohli’s form is a great sign for Indian cricket, especially in the year of the ODI World Cup at home.
