IND vs NZ: "Shardul Thakur Will Be A Part Of India's World Cup Squad As One Of The Seamers" - Irfan Pathan

Irfan Pathan believes Shardul Thakur will be one of India’s seamers at the World Cup later this year.

The Men in Blue bowled out New Zealand for 295 to win the third and final ODI by 90 runs on Tuesday in Indore thanks in large part to Shardul, who had stats of 3-45 in six overs (January 24). Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill’s 212-run opening-wicket stand had previously helped the hosts reach a massive total of 385-9.

Pathan was questioned about his opinions on the fast bowlers who would make it to India’s World Cup squad during an interview on the Star Sports program “Match Point,” given Shardul Thakur’s performance in the final ODI, and he replied:

“Shardul will rank first if you ask him. He bowled quite well. He is a trier; he continues trying. When you see him, you’ll always think he doesn’t have that type of swing or that kind of steady 140-plus pace, but he’ll always be in your face. and he wants to keep taking wickets.”

“Shardul Thakur Should certainly be there in that group of players”: Irfan Pathan

Irfan Pathan predicts the think tank will have access to a sizable pool of quick bowlers, noting:

“You want more players on the team who are like him. With him, especially when discussing the World Cup, you need to have at least six or seven team combinations in your back pocket”

Pathan elaborates on his belief that Shardul’s ability to contribute with the bat will keep him in the mix:

“If you ask me that specific question about Shardul Thakur, he should definitely be there in that group of players who are going to put their hands up and say that they should be there in the World Cup as well”

Shardul not only took three wickets in the final ODI against New Zealand but also contributed with a useful 17-ball 25 during India’s innings. After India had lost a few fast wickets, he put up a 54-run seventh-wicket stand with Hardik Pandya.
