As said earlier this is the first ODI match to be played at this venue. Earlier in 2013, the ground hosted its first IPL game between Delhi Daredevils and Pune Warriors India. Raipur was the home venue for the Delhi franchise that season. There were matches scheduled in IPL 2014 as well but with the tournament shifted to the UAE for the Lok Sabha elections in the country no more matches were played at this venue.
Speaking about the weather and playing conditions, the second IND vs NZ ODI starts at 1.30 pm IST. The temperature will be around 31 degrees in the afternoon which will drop down to around 19 degrees in the evening with the skies clearing out. Humidity will be around 55 percent and dew is expected to come in early in the evening. It can also dictate the decision-making at the toss.
Historically the venue has been a high-scoring one in domestic cricket and the two IPL games played here. However, chasing is trickier at this venue with spinners getting enough assistance from this wicket. The captain who wins the toss would ideally like to bat first.
