The Wall- these two words really define Rahul Dravid, who was the calmest ever player in the history of Indian cricket. Dravid is also a former Indian skipper who led the side during ODI World Cup 2007.
Rahul Dravid was a right-handed batsman who also played as a wicketkeeper. However, he was only a part-time wicketkeeper. Recently, he was the coach of the Indian team that won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Early and Personal Life
Rahul Dravid was born on January 11, 1973 in Indore City in Madhya Pradesh to Sharad Dravid and Pushpa Dravid. He grew up with his brother Vijay Dravid. He married Vijeta Pendharkar in 2005. He has two kids, Samit and Anvay.
Domestic Career
Rahul Dravid was part of Karnataka team during his entire career in the domestic circuit. He was part of the same team from his debut in 1990 till his retirement and never changed his state club. He made his international debut in 1996.
International Career
Rahul Dravid made his Test and ODI debut in the year 1996. He played his last match in 2012. In his Test career, he played a total of 164 games and slammed 13288 runs in 286 games at an average of 52+.
During his ODI career, he played a total of 344 matches. He mustered 10889 runs at an average of 39+. He played just 1 T20I game during his career where he piled up just 31 runs.
Franchise Career
Rahul Dravid also played 89 games in Indian Premier League, where he shattered 2174 runs. He played for only two teams during his IPL career. He played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru from 2008 to 2010 and Rajasthan Royals from 2011 to 2013.
Post Retirement
After retirement, Dravid played two crucial roles with BCCI. He became the NCA Director and led the Under-19 team to ODI World Cup victory.
Later, he also coached the India National Cricket Team. During his term, Indian team won the Asia Cup 2023 and ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He ended Team India's third victory.
