Ross Taylor is a former New Zealand cricketer who retired from international cricket in 2022. He is considered the best batsman to ever play cricket for New Zealand due to his long career. He represented the New Zealand team from 2006 to 2022.
Ross Taylor was a former right-handed batsman and right-arm off-spinner. However, he just bowled in a handful of games. Notably, he is a New Zealand cricketer to play 100 games in all three formats and this is a unique record since the New Zealand Team does not play a lot of matches.
Family and Personal Life
Ross Taylor was born on March 8 1984 to Neil and Ann Taylor in Lower Hutt in Wellington, New Zealand. He married Victoria Jayne Brown who is also a cricketer. The couple has three kids- two sons and one daughter.
Early and Domestic Career
Ross Taylor broke into the domestic team Central Districts and is still part of the side and plays matches for them. He also plays for Australia's domestic team Victoria. He made his international debut in 2003, just after four years of his domestic career.
International Career
Ross Taylor made his debut for New Zealand in 2006 against West Indies and played his last match against Bangladesh in January 2022. During 17 years, the right-handed batsman played a total of 112 Tests, 236 ODIs, and 55 T20Is.
He shattered 7684 runs in Tests at an average of 44+ and 8602 runs in ODIs at 47+ average. He also slammed 1909 runs in the shortest format at 25+ batting average.
Hence, Taylor was a marvelous batter across all three formats and one of the consistent batters for the side during his entire career.
Franchise Career
Ross Taylor played in many franchise T20I leagues including Indian Premier League. The right-handed batter played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL in the first three seasons (2008-2010). He later played for Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Daredevils, and Pune Warriors India till 2013.
Later, he was more active in franchise T20I leagues outside India, particularly the Caribbean Premier League. He was a regular in CPL and played for Trinidad and Tobago from 2013 to 2014. Later, he played for St Lucia Zouks, Jamaica Tallawahs, and Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 2015, 2018, and 2020 seasons respectively.
