The 6th match of the Pakistan Super League 2022 will have Karachi Kings take on Lahore Qalandars, scheduled to be held at National Stadium on Sunday. Karachi Kings haven’t made a great start to their campaign, having lost their first game at the hands of Multan Sultans by 7 wickets.
Karachi Kings batted first in that encounter but dished out a miserable performance. Sharjeel Khan played a valuable 43-run knock off 31 deliveries, however, the other batsmen failed to make an impact.
Skipper Babar Azam used up as many as 29 deliveries to score only 23 runs, an inning that only had 1 four. Joe Clarke got a good start but he couldn’t convert that into a big score. He made 26 runs in 24 deliveries. Mohammed Nabi also struggled to hit the straps as he only managed to score 17 runs in 10 deliveries. Karachi Kings, as a result of those performances, could only manage to score 124 runs in the first innings.
Defending a low total, Karachi Kings needed wickets in a cluster but they couldn’t get those. The first wicket came in the 5th over, while the next wicket came in the 15th. The pitch had grip and turn and M Nabi made good use of that. He picked two crucial wickets during the chase but those weren’t enough.
Multan Sultans chased down the total in the end in 18.2 overs with 7 wickets in hand. Karachi Kings will be playing their third match on Sunday and would be desperate to win that. Lahore Qalandars, on the other hand, will be playing their second match of this season.
The Qalandars, this year, will be led by a new captain in Shaheen Shah Afridi. He has taken over the captaincy duties from Sohail Khan. Talking about the overseas players, Rashid Khan continues to be the biggest bet for the team.
He will, once again, lead the spin-bowling department. On the batting front, they have got Phil Salt, who is one of the hardest hitters in the game. Other notable acquisitions include the likes of Samit Patel and David Wiese. The duo will add depth to the batting unit and also provide great options with the ball.
As far the Pakistan players are concerned, Fakhar Zaman and Mohammad Hafeez will be the vital cogs in the batting department. Sohail Akhtar has been removed from the captaincy but remains an integral part of this batting unit.
On the bowling front, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Harris Rauf will take the onus of picking the wickets. The duo has done exceedingly well in the past and should continue to deliver this year as well.
