The first match of the 2022 edition of the Pakistan Super League will have Karachi Kings take on Multan Sultans on Thursday at National Stadium in Karachi. Multan Sultans didn’t have a great outing in the first half of the 2021 edition of PSL.
However, the second leg of the tournament saw them making a remarkable turnaround. The Sultans not only reached the playoffs and also went on to win the title as well. Mohammad Rizwan and Co. would look to defend the title ahead of a new season.
The top-order, comprising of Shan Masood, Sohaib Maqsood and M Rizwan, remains the same. The trio made a significant contribution with the bat last year, helping the team post formidable totals on the board. The middle-order comprises the likes of Khushdil Shah and Rilee Rossouw.
Multan Sultans have added the likes of Tim David and David Willey in a bid to add depth to the batting unit. Both have the potential to play vital cameos in the death overs. Besides, Willey is a lethal force with the ball as well. He is pretty effective in the power play as well as death overs.
It won’t be wrong to say that Multan Sultans has one of the best fast bowling units. Along with David Willey, they have got Zimbabwe’s latest sensation i.e., Blessing Muzarabani and Shahnawaz Dahani, who picked the most wickets last year. In the spin department, Imran Tahir will be their biggest bet.
Karachi Kings, on the other hand, also reached the playoffs but lost in the Eliminator 1 clash against Peshawar Zalmi. Babar Azam has replaced Imad Wasim as the captain of the team. He would look to open the batting alongside Sharjeel Khan. Both will, once again, have the onus to give powerful starts at the top of the order.
The franchise has invested heavily in the all-rounders, namely M Nabi, Tom Abell, and Lewis Gregory. The trio will look to contribute with both bat and ball and should keep the team in good stead. Joe Clarke has been in great form. He will be a player to watch out for in the tournament.
Though, they are a bit short in the bowling department. For Kings to reach the top-four, Mohammad Amir needs to have a great season with the ball. He will be supported by M Imran, Lewis Gregory among others. Karachi Kings have also acquired the services of Chris Jordan, who is likely to help them with their death over woes. The Englishman, however, would join the team later during the tournament.
