In the third One-Day International of the series on Tuesday at Delhi’s prestigious Arun Jaitley Stadium against South Africa, Team India put on a brilliant performance that helped them win the series by a score of three games to one. After dropping the first game, the Men in Blue staged an incredible comeback to take the series 2-1.
As the Proteas were skittled out for only 99 runs, players like Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar hunted in packs. On a slow Kotla pitch, the spin trio of Washington Sundar (2/15), Shahbaz Ahmed (2/32), and Kuldeep Yadav (4/18) chose the right lengths to bowl South Africa for their lowest ODI total against Men in Blue.
Under the direction of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, the Asian giants began the year by suffering five consecutive losses to South Africa (two in tests and three in one-day internationals). Nevertheless, they continued to win, winning a series against the West Indies, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, England, and South Africa in the months that followed.
Men In Blue won 23 T20 International matches under Rohit Sharma before the Australia 2022 T20 World Cup.
Returning to the third ODI match, pacer Mohammad Siraj (2/17) also kept up his strong performance to support his selection to the T20 World Cup squad. Kuldeep, a left-arm spinner who fell short of a hat trick, cleaned up the tail while Washington and Shahbaz picked up wickets in the front. The second-string Indian team came from behind to win the three-match series 2-1, putting the calibre of the Indian white-ball team on full display.
India still has a lot of cricket to play this year:
Team India’s victory ties Australia’s illustrious record for the most international victories in a calendar year, which has stood for many years. Men In Blue currently has 38 victories overall as of 2022, which ties it with Australia, which had 38 victories overall as of 2003.
If Men In Blue didn’t take over as the sole holder of the record in the ensuing days, it would be incredibly unexpected. In addition to the T20 World Cup in 2022, India still has a lot of cricket to play this year. They will tour New Zealand for an ODI and T20I series after the main competition.
India’s next international match will be the T20 World Cup opener against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on October 23.
