South Africa National Cricket Team head coach Mark Boucher has said that winning a bilateral series in India, especially in the 50-over format, is always very difficult.

Mark Boucher is currently involved in his last bilateral series as the men’s head coach of the South Africa National Cricket Team in the three-match ODI series against Shikhar Dhawan-led India National Cricket Team. He has already announced that he will step down as the Proteas head coach after the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.

Speaking ahead of the third and final ODI, which is the series decider, the Proteas head coach said that clinching the series win against the Men In Blue will help the South African team finish on a high and take the winning momentum into the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. Mark Boucher said:

“It’s always tough to win bilateral series, especially in ODIs, the schedule has been quite hectic. If SA win here, they’ll take this momentum into the T20 WC, it’ll be nice to finish on a high. The batters need to spend some time in the middle, the bowlers need to be smart.”

The 45-year-old further said that they need to be smart in managing the players in the lead-up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. He said:

“Today we might see a lot of rotation, we have got a bit of time before the T20 WC starts. We need to rotate a bit, and need to be smart managing the guys.”

Mark Boucher believes that the South African team only had one poor batting performance on the ongoing India tour, which came in the first T20I at the Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram where they were restricted to 106/8. He elaborated:

“We only had one poor batting performance (first T20I) on this tour, and we got stuck in the last game after the 35th over. The major focus is on the bowling, you might get to see a bit of aggression today. There are always things to work on, hopefully we get better at things.”
