The 23-year-old India National Cricket Team left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has said that his goal is to bag wickets with the new ball for his side in the remainder of the T20I series against South Africa National Cricket.
Arshdeep was in top-notch form with the ball in the first T20I match of the three-match series against Temba Bavuma and Co. where Rohit Sharma’s India National Cricket Team dominantly won by 8 wickets at the Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday, September 28.

In his first over, he castled Quinton de Kock for 1 and then on the last two deliveries of the over, he dismissed both Rilee Rossouw and David Miller for a golden duck. Also, he won the Player of the Match award for his figures of 4-0-32-3. Notably, Arshdeep had the figures of 15/3 heading into the 19th over, but in the 19th he conceded 17 runs that ruined his bowling figures.
In an interview with India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey after the match on BCCI TV, Arshdeep said that he didn’t expect that the pitch at the stadium would offer a lot of assistance to the pacers.
“I didn’t expect the ball to swing that much but it’s important to adapt to situations,” said Arshdeep.
“Now my goal in the next two matches is to pick wickets with the new ball and help the team in every way possible,” he added.
Taking a break helped me to work on fitness and strength and I feel quite refreshed – Arshdeep Singh
Arshdeep Singh was rested for the recently concluded series against Australia and he underwent conditioning-related training at the NCA in Bengaluru.
While talking about the break, the 23-year-old speedster said:
“Taking a break helped me to work on fitness and strength and I feel quite refreshed.”
When asked if he had studied pitch before the commencement of the game, Arshdeep asserted:
“I don’t have the habit of studying the wicket and asked the bowling coach and pitched the ball in the correct areas.”
Meanwhile, India have taken a 1-0 lead in the series and the second game will be played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday, October 2.
