Earlier, South Africa National Cricket Team won the toss and opted to bat first in the match. They made two huge changes to the playing XI as skipper Temba Bavuma and left-arm wrist spinner Tabraiz Shamsi – the players who failed to perform in the first ODI – were rested and Reeza Hendricks and Bjorn Fortuin replaced them. Also, Keshav Maharaj was handed over the captaincy responsibility.

On the other hand, India National Cricket Team also made two changes to the playing XI as spin-bowling all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed was handed the debut cap and he along with Washington Sundar replaced top-order batter Ruturaj Gaikwad and leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi.

Batting first, the visitors were off to a poor start in the match as star opener Quinton de Kock was cleaned up for 5 by Mohammed Siraj in the third over itself. Opener Janneman Malan was also sent back for 25 by debutant Shahbaz Ahmed in the 10th over.

Then, Aiden Markram and Reeza Hendricks batted very well and added important 129 runs in 129 balls for the 3rd wickets. The right-arm pacer Mohammed Siraj broke the partnership between Aiden Markram and Reeza Hendricks by picking the wicket of the latter in the 32nd over. Hendricks scored 74 runs off 76 balls, including 9 fours and 1 six.

Last game’s Player of the Match Heinrich Klaasen, who scored good 30 runs, was the next one to depart. The 28-year-old Aiden Markram played a good knock and registered his second-best ODI score. He scored 79 runs off 89 balls, including 7 fours and 1 six, before getting dismissed by Washington Sundar in 39th over.

In the end, Wayne Parnell struggled and got out for 16. However, David Miller’s crucial 35 runs contribution helped the Proteas post 278/7 on the board.

Chasing the target, Shikhar Dhawan fell for 13 and Shubman Gill departed for 28. However, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer displayed a batting masterclass against the quality Proteas bowling attack and had a stellar 161-run partnership. Kishan scored his half-century off 60 balls and Iyer smashed his half-century off 48 balls.

The young wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan fell 7-run short of a well-deserved century and got dismissed by Bjorn Fortuin. He scored 93 runs off 84 balls, including 4 fours and 7 sixes.

In the end, Shreyas Iyer smashed a terrific century and registered an unbeaten score of 113 runs off 111 balls, including 15 fours. Also, Sanju Samson chipped in with crucial 30 runs to help India chase down the target.
