David Miller became a victim of Arshdeep Singh’s fiery bowling in the first T20I between India and South Africa which is being played at the Greenfield International Cricket Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala on September 28, 2022. This is the first match of the three-T20I series.
South Africa has come back to India after playing five T20Is in June and that series was drawn 2-2 with one match, the series decider being abandoned due to rain. However, this time, the Proteas have come to Indian shores with a full-strength squad that will also play in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, won the toss and chose to bowl first. Jasprit Bumrah was missing in the playing XI due to a back injury, while Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have been rested. Instead of them, Deepak Chahar, Rishabh Pant, and R Ashwin came into the side.

The decision to bowl first proved to be a boon for the Men in Blue as Arshdeep Singh, who returned to the side after being rested for the Australia series, struck early, removing Quinton de Kock for 1 run after Deepak Chahar had dismissed Proteas captain Temba Bavuma for a duck.
Arshdeep then removed Rilee Russouw for a golden duck in the second over and on the very next ball, made the experienced David Miller, who is also the vice-captain of the side, his 3rd victim.
It was a perfect setup for Miller as the previous ball had left Russouw and swung away from him, which he edged to Rishabh Pant. However, with Miller anticipating another away swinger, was surprised with a sharp inswinging delivery.
David Miller failed to see the swing and his bat moved at the wrong line with the ball coming into him and rattling his stumps.
This left the Proteas 8/4, before Deepak Chahar removed Tristan Stubbs for a golden duck to make it 9/5 in 2.3 overs.
