Ishan Kishan was back to his best after an indifferent series against West Indies. He bagged a Man of The Match performance in the first T20I against Sri Lanka as he scored 89 off 56 balls. He laid the foundation for India’s massive total with a 111-run opening stand with Rohit Sharma. India ultimately scored 199/2 which proved a little too much for the Lankans.
A disciplined bowling performance from the Indian bowlers saw Sri Lanka getting restricted to 137/6 in their 20 overs and losing the game by 62 runs in the end. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Venkatesh Iyer picked two wickets each as Chahal and Jadeja picked one each.

Ishan Kishan at the post-match presentation spoke about learning from the mistakes he made in the series against West Indies. He also spoke about how he approached his innings in the game and the partnership that he had with Shreyas Iyer (57* off 28).

“I got to learn a lot from the West Indies series. My intent wasn’t good enough, I wasn’t positive enough. I was just trying to keep it simple here – watch the ball and play my shots. Pull is my favourite shot, I enjoy playing that shot. It’s a positive thing for the batting unit as well because you need to hit gaps preparing for the world cup in Australia. I was talking to Shreyas about the mid-wicket region. He said if you middle the ball you could get a boundary. If you hit the gaps you can get two. And it went my way” said the southpaw.
Pleasing To Watch Ishan Kishan From The Other End: Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma also lauded the youngster for the innings he played. There was pressure on him to deliver after the failure in the West Indies series and Kishan stepped up on all expectations. Rohit spoke about how closely he knows Kishan’s game and the conversations that he had with him in recent times.

“I know Ishan for a long time now. I know the mindset he has. I know the ability he has as well. It was just about getting the kind of game that he had today. It was so pleasing to watch from the other end. The way he constructed the innings was so good, that is usually a challenge for him. We were talking in the middle about finding gaps” said Rohit on Kishan.
