Indian vice-captain KL Rahul could miss the T20I series and all-rounder Washington Sundar could well end up missing the Test series against Sri Lanka. In Rahul’s stead, Mayank Agarwal could get to open while pacers, and Prasidh Krishna and Ishan Porel could also come into the Test setup.

Rahul missed out on the ongoing T20I series and the last ODI against the West Indies due to an injury. Sundar also sustained an injury that had ruled him out of last season’s IPL but he made a comeback recently in the ODI series against the Windies.

As for the bowlers Prasidh was impressive in the ODI series where he won the Player of the Series award. He was very economical and effective with the ball and his style of bowling is quite conducive in Tests. After the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj, he is in the fray as the fourth pacer.

Porel has also been good in the domestic circuit for Bengal and also for India A. He has made use of the opportunities in front of him and he could well be rewarded when the selectors announce the Test squad in a day or two.

Ravindra Jadeja set for return after long injury break

Premier all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has recovered fully from his knee injury and is available for the series. He could return for both T20Is and the Tests.

Jadeja is fit and available but Washington Sundar won’t play the Sri Lanka series. Also, KL Rahul looks doubtful at least for the T20 series. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami are also expected to be back after their much-earned break,” a BCCI source told PTI.

In addition, the Test captain is due to be announced and it’s likely to be Rohit Sharma, who will have the responsibility in all three formats if named the skipper. Virat Kohli might end up taking a break from the T20I series against Sri Lanka but return for his 100th Test match in Mohali.
