Dinesh Karthik, a wicketkeeper-batsman, thinks India must abandon their traditional style of cricket if they wish to succeed in the T20I format.

Karthik made his remarks following the Men in Blue’s 16-run defeat to Sri Lanka in the second Twenty20 match of their three-match series on January 5 in Pune. Even though they lost, the Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper was pleased with their attempt to play aggressively from ball one.

India suffered a cheap loss of their top order as a consequence, but Dinesh Karthik believes the decision to bat aggressively early in a run chase of 207 was indeed the correct one.

Dinesh Karthik Attempts To Provide An Insight On Lack Of Results

Dinesh Karthik attempted to provide an explanation for India’s title drought in ICC competitions in a post-game interview with Cricbuzz. He said:

“We haven’t won a World Cup since 2011. We have the best T20 league in the world. We boast of the best players, the most skilled players and bench strength, then the results should show right? If it’s not the case then there’s something wrong with the way we are approaching it maybe and that needs to change.”

Dinesh Karthik Feels India Needs To Make A ‘Habit’ Of Playing Fearless Cricket

Dinesh Karthik was a member of the Indian team that lost to eventual winners England by a margin of 10 wickets and was eliminated from the 2022 T20 World Cup in the semifinals.

Jos Buttler and company defeated the Men in Blue, according to Karthik, because they were accustomed to playing brave cricket regardless of the greatest platforms. India, on the other hand, has only succeeded in doing so in bilateral matches and not in ICC competitions.

In response, he said:

“Rohit Sharma did a vailant effort to change the way we play and in the bilaterals leading to the T20 World Cup, we did play the way we wanted.

“But we then went to Australia and while we felt that the wickets there weren’t suited to this brand of cricket, there came England and played the entire tournament the way they have always played. This is because they have the habit and until we make that a habit for ourselves, it is not going to come suddenly in one big game.”

In the crucial third and final T20I against Sri Lanka, it would be intriguing to observe if India keeps batting the way they did after losing in Pune. On Saturday, January 7, the two sides will square off at the Saurashtra Cricket Stadium with the series tied at one each.
