Indian Cricket Team had won the toss & opted to bat first in the 3rd ODI at Thiruvananthapuram. Skipper Rohit Sharma made 2 changes as they rested Umran Malik, and Hardik Pandya and brought back Washington Sundar & Suryakumar Yadav into the lineup.

Sri Lanka dropped Dhananjay de Silva & Dunith Wellalage and included Ashen Bandara and Jeffrey Vandersay. Surprisingly, the visitors didn’t include Maheesh Theekshana as he has been completely ignored despite having the knack of picking up wickets at crucial stages of the stage.

Rohit Sharma Foxed by Chamika Karunaratne

The Men in Blue came out all guns blazing as they scored 75 runs in the power-play over for the loss of no wickets. At the end of 15 overs, India’s score was 91-0 where Rohit Sharma was on 42 runs in 47 balls whereas Shubman Gill’s score was 45 runs in 43 balls.

Chamika Karunaratne was bowling the 16th over, on the 2nd ball of the over, Karunaratne bowled a length ball on the middle stump where Rohit tried to play a pull shot where he gave a straight catch to the fielder at deep backward square leg. Rohit Sharma would be angry with himself as he missed out to make the most of a start as the batter scored 42 runs in 49 balls where he struck 2 fours and 3 sixes. India’s score was 95-1.

Crucial Phase for Sri Lanka

There is nothing significant in the pitch for the bowlers where the visitors need to be spot on with their line and lengths. It won’t be wrong to say that another high-scoring game is on the cards. Skipper Dasun Shanaka should use Wanindu Hasaranga carefully as his overs would be quite critical.

Shubman Gill, the dashing right-handed batter has a golden opportunity to make his start count. It would be interesting to see how the duo Shubman & Virat fare as we should not forget that the dimensions of the ground aren’t that big.
