Ashes 2021-22: Michael Vaughan Backs Justin Langer To Become England's Head Coach

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has said that Justin Langer’s contract should be extended by Cricket Australia for a couple more years. However, he also pointed out that if that is not the case, he would not mind Langer being roped in as the next England head coach. The visitors have already lost the Ashes series with the coach and the captain under fire and possibly will be replaced after the end of the series.
Speaking to Fox Cricket, Michael Vaughan said that Cricket Australia should be wise enough to retain Langer for the next couple of years.
“I would jump at the chance. Be careful what you wish for – that’s all I’ll say. The grass is not always greener, and Justin Langer, from what I see – he’s doing a fantastic job. If I was Cricket Australia, I’d sign him up for at least a couple more years.”
Langer’s position was in doubt after the home series loss against India last year. But the T20 World Cup win and now the Ashes series win has boosted his chances of retention.
Vaughan, however, was quick to accept that if Cricket Australia have no plans to retain him in the future, he would be happy to see Langer as the coach of the England team.

“He’d take all that information to make sure that in 2023, Australia go on to win the Ashes convincingly in English conditions because they’ve got the squad and the mentality around the group with Justin’s kind of leadership to go on and do so. But if you don’t want him, yeah, we’ll have him.”
Former England captain, Andrew Strauss has been shouldered the responsibility of deciding the future of both Chris Silverwood and Joe Root after the ongoing Ashes series is over.
Team Director Ashley Giles is being criticised for giving both Silverwood and Root the long rope despite England’s disastrous record in Test cricket since the series against India both and home and in India. They lost the series 2-1 back in India and are currently trailing at home 1-2 with the postponed Manchester Test scheduled to be played later this year.
