Western Australia Cricket Association chief executive Christina Matthews has said that previously she was almost sure that Perth will host the Ashes 2021-22 Test match, but now there is only a 50-50 chance.
The marquee five-Test Ashes 2021-22 series is all set to begin from December 8 at the iconic Gabba, Brisbane, and the Ashes finale will be played at the Perth Stadium from January 14. However, due to Western Australia (WA) state’s strict COVID-19 rules and regulations, the fixture remains in doubt.

Notably, Australia have retained the Ashes with a 2-2 series draw in 2019 and with the newly appointed captain Pat Cummins and Vice-captain Steve Smith, they will be looking forward to winning the series this time.
Cummins was appointed as the new captain of the Australia men’s Test team after Tim Paine decided to step down from his role following his involvement in a sexting scandal. Also, former skipper Steve Smith has made a comeback in the leadership role.
It’s A Matter Of Whether Cricket Can Meet Those Demands Or Not – Western Australia Cricket Association Chief Christina Matthews
Talking about the Perth Test match, Western Australia Cricket Association Chief Christina Matthews on ABC Radio said:
“I’d probably say at the moment I’m 50-50, I’d gone as high as 97% but I’ve gone back to 50-50. We’ll wait and see.”
“It’s a matter of whether cricket can meet those demands or not,” Matthews added
She also said that one of the challenges for cricket will be the high-level technology that is needed to set up during the game. She asserted:
“One of the difficulties for cricket is just the high level of technology that’s needed around the broadcast and the number of people that are needed around the broadcast compared to an AFL (Australian Football League) broadcast.”
“It’s one thing getting the players in (but) it’s another thing getting the people who have to broadcast.“
