The IPL 2021 may have been suspended midway this year due to the pandemic situation, but there are lots of interesting things waiting for the next edition in 2022. The franchises will have a lot of time to analyze the performers. the future of the team and their value to the team. Also, a mega auction is lined up for IPL 2022 which means there will be a lot of shuffling of both Indian and overseas players ahead of IPL 2022.
IPL 2022 will also be adding a couple of new teams in the tournament, making it a 10-team competition. This would bind certain franchises to change their combinations and captains for the next season. A change in captaincy may not be a bad thing for teams that have struggled this year and it is better if the franchise opts for it earlier rather than making it too late. With the mega auction likely to take place next year, it is time to look at probable captains of all the franchises in IPL 2022.
Probable Captains Of 10 IPL Franchises If A Mega Auction Takes Place For IPL 2022
Chennai Super Kings (CSK)- Ravindra Jadeja
He smashed 37 runs in an over equalling the IPL record and was a live wire in the field always. He will be the probable captain of CSK and this will be a major boost for his confidence too. He scored 131 runs and picked up 6 wickets at an excellent economy rate this season in the 7 games he played in IPL 2021.
??Delhi Capitals (DC)- Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer did not take part in the IPL 2021 after going through shoulder surgery and he has been out of cricket action for the last 6-7 weeks. Rishabh Pant was named as the replacement for the captaincy position of Delhi Capitals and he fared out really well winning 6 of the 8 games to finish at the top.
But Iyer has done wonders for the franchise since he has taken over the captaincy, and has a bit more experience than Pant with the captaincy duties. It won’t be a surprise call if Delhi opts for Iyer to be back with the captaincy duties as he has taken Delhi Capitals to the playoffs continuously for the last two years.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) – Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli hasn’t won an IPL trophy yet but he has done everything that a franchise expects and he has been the only player that has played for the same franchise, RCB in the 13 seasons so far. Kohli was on the way to a successful campaign this year with four wins in the first four games until the tournament was suspended.
The Indian skipper took RCB to the finals in 2016 scoring nearly 980 runs in one season with four centuries and such is the impact he can create in the IPL. He did not have the best of IPL this year scoring just 198 runs in 7 games which are way below his usual standards and RCB is most likely to continue with him as the captain.
Mumbai Indians (MI)- Rohit Sharma
The franchise has a lot of match-winners who can win the game single-handedly from any situation and it has been the major highlight for their success. Rohit has marshaled his troops really well and he has taken a lot of crucial decisions at crunch times which has turned out to be excellent ideas. He does know how to win titles and is expected to continue his captaincy run.
Rajasthan Royals (RR)- Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler will be the first name to be retained by the franchise after what he has done for the franchise in the last three years and he has got much experience in international T20s to be the captain of the side. Being a top-order batsman and a wicket-keeper, he can do the job certainly.
Buttler finished off the last game for Rajasthan with a scintillating century and got back into form again. He has been performing consistently for the franchise and he can win the games on his own. Samson has looked a bit nervous on occasions when his bowlers have leaked runs and that has been the case more or less throughout IPL 2021. Thus, it could also be the best time to try someone like Jos Buttler who is a certainty in the playing XI.
Punjab Kings (PBKS)- KL Rahul

KL Rahul hasn’t done anything wrong so far as the captain and he has done the bulk of the run-scoring for Punjab over the last three years. He is a match-winner but his strike rate has dropped a bit owing to the inexperience in the middle order which has affected his plans.
Punjab should look for a more formidable side in the mega auction which can be consistent and effective and hence pick players according to it. Rahul has done the hard yards for the franchise and it will be very harsh on him if they change the captaincy. He is expected to continue his captaincy reins for Punjab.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)- David Warner

David Warner was sacked as the captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the midway of the tournament after being not effective this season. However, he will be out in the mega auction if he gets released and KKR is expected to bid for Warner surely with their captain Morgan not performing up to the expectations.
KKR could win only two of their seven games this year and Morgan hasn’t done much with the bat too. Warner has a lot of experience in the IPL and has won a trophy for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016. Warner will perfect the plans of Kolkata Knight Riders if the mega auction takes place.
SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH)- Kane Williamson

Kane Williamson took over the captaincy duties after Warner was sacked in the midway of the tournament and he has a lot of experience in leading the New Zealand team for a number of years. Williamson has been scoring consistently for the Sunrisers and has shown that he can do the job in T20 cricket too.
Williamson captained the franchise in 2018 when Warner wasn’t around and he did a great job in taking the franchise to the final. He also took his country to the finals in the Worldcup 2019 and does bring in a lot of quality to the team. Sunrisers will be looking forward to him as the captain of the franchise mostly for the IPL 2022.
Anonymous Team 1- Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant had a spectacular start to his captaincy career in IPL 2021 when he led the Delhi Capitals franchise in the absence of their regular skipper, Shreyas Iyer. As Iyer is expected to come back next year, Delhi Capitals might retain Iyer, Prithvi Shaw, and Shikhar Dhawan as their Indian players looking at their current form.
This would mean the ouster of Rishabh Pant from Delhi Capitals. There are a couple of new teams to be added to the tournament in IPL 2022, making it a 10-team competition. Pant’s ouster from DC would surely be an opening door for him to join a new franchise and lead a completely new team. His captaincy in IPL 2021 was superb as he managed to keep DC on top of the points table when the tournament came to a standstill. Under his leadership, DC won 6 out of the 8 matches they played this season.
Anonymous Team 2- Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins has been one of the most-talked-about cricketers ever since he was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for a whopping Rs. 15.50 Crores in the IPL 2020 auction. Although, it would not be unfair to say that he has failed so far to justify his price tag in IPL 2020 and IPL 2021.
With the rules allowing only one overseas cricketer to be retained by each franchise in a mega auction, KKR would definitely like to go ahead with Andre Russell for that slot. In such an event, Pat Cummins will have to be released by KKR, and the new teams that will be added to the competition will certainly like to place a bet on him.
Pat has already expressed his willingness to lead the Australian Cricket Team in the future and many experts of the cricketing circuit have also vouched for his establishment as the captain of the Aussie Test side. Thus, he can be a suitable captaincy option for the new franchises.
