Team New Zealand on September 1, 2021, faced defeat against team Bangladesh for the first time in the history of T20 Internationals. Notably, The Blackcaps were a dominant side, in the previous 10 T20I games against Bangladesh. Also, the record of 10-0 which New Zealand held against Bangladesh was the best unbeaten head-to-head record for any team in T20 Internationals.

Coming back to that game, New Zealand was bundled by Bangladesh at the score of 60 which is the lowest total of any team against Bangladesh in T20I cricket. The previous lowest total against Bangladesh was Australia who got bowled out the score of 62.

Also, the 60 all out of New Zealand against Bangladesh is the second-lowest T20I total by a full member nation, the team that has a lower score than the Kiwis is the West Indies who got bowled out at the score of 45 against England. However, while batting first in T20I cricket, the 60 all out of Blackcaps remains the lowest total by any Full Member team in men’s T20Is.

5. 86 vs South Africa

New Zealand locked horns with South Africa on December 21, 2012, at Kingsmead, Durban in the first T20 International match of the South Africa tour. The game was a one-sided encounter and The Proteas completely outshined Kiwis in all three departments.

The Brendon McCullum-led Blackcaps won the toss and invited South Africa to bowl first. South Africa did an outstanding job while bowling first as all the bowlers dominated the Kiwi batter. Also, all the main bowlers picked at least 1 wicket each. With the poor show of Blackcaps with the bat, they were bundled at the score of just 86 with Colin Munro  being the highest run-scorer with 23 runs under his belt

While chasing Faf Du Plessis and Quinton De Kock batted beautifully and completed the chase in 12.1 overs. And South Africa managed to defeat New Zealand by 8 Wickets and 47 balls remaining.

4. 81 vs Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka faced off New Zealand in the 2nd T20I match of the 2-match T20I series on May 23, 2010, at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill. Eventually, the 2-match T20I series ended in the draw as both the teams successfully won one match each.

Daniel Vettori led side won the toss and decided to bat first. They would have thought to put big runs on the board however things went completely different as Kiwis had a poor show with the bat. Only two batters from the Daniel Vettori-led team managed to cross 20 runs mark, which were captain Daniel (27) and Nathan McCullum (36). Notably, The Blackcaps were bowled out in 18th over at the score of 81 by Sri Lanka.

Team Sri Lanka led by Kumar Sangakkara comfortably chased the small target posted by New Zealand in just 15.3 overs and they won the match by defeating the Kiwis by 7 wickets and 27 balls remaining.

3. 80 vs Pakistan

The match was the 3rd T20I dead rubber game at Christchurch which took place on Dec 30, 2010, and it was part of the Pakistan tour of New Zealand. The blackcaps already registered the win in the series and were entering the last game with a lot of confidence. However, things didn’t go very well for kiwis.

Shahid Afridi-led Pakistan won the toss and they elected to bat first. Notably, the Pakistan team smashed 183/6 at the end of 20 overs. Abdul Razzaq who came to bat in the lower-order smashed 34 runs at a strike rate of 309.09.

While chasing the big score Ross Taylor’s led side had a horrible start as they were reduced at the score of 11/5 in 4.4 overs. Notably, the top 4 batsmen of team New Zealand got out at the score of 0. Eventually, the blackcaps got bowled out on 80 in 15.5 overs and they lost the battle.

2. 60 vs Sri Lanka

New Zealand registered their joint-lowest total score in T20I at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong against Sri Lanka. As they got all out at the score of 60 on March 31, 2014. Notably, that match was part of the World T20 series.

Team New Zealand won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat first and the Kiwi bowlers did a great job dismantling the Lankan batting unit. Notably, Sri Lanka led by Lasith Malinga got bowled out at the score of just 119, which was a very low total on the big stage like the T20 World Cup.

However, while chasing the small target, Brendon McCullum and co. had a horror show. As the blackcaps got bowled out at the score of just 60, despite Kane Williamson scoring 42 runs for his team, other than him no batter was able to cross 5 runs mark in the match. The main man behind the poor batting of Kiwis was Rangana Herath who bowled 3.3 overs gave 3 runs and bagged 5 wickets for Sri Lanka, he was awarded man of the match for his exceptional performance.

1. 60 vs Bangladesh

On September 1, 2021, History was witnessed in the Shere Bangla National Stadium, when Bangladesh defeated New Zealand for the first time in T20 International cricket in the first match of the five-match T20I series. Adding to it, Bangladesh registered the win by 7 wickets and with 30 balls remaining. Notably, that match saw a batting horror show by Tom Latham’s led side.

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first and that decision turned out to be a horrible one for the team. As they lost the first wicket on the 3rd ball of the match and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. They were reduced to 9/4 at the end of 4th over. Meanwhile, they got bowled out in 17th over at the score of 60. Notably, All the bowlers from Bangladesh gave an exceptional performance.

Meanwhile, during the chase, Bangladesh also lost early Wickets as they were reduced to 7/2 in the 3rd over. However, after that Shakib Al Hasan contributed crucial 25 runs, which led Bangladesh to earn the victory in the match. Also, Shakib Al Hasan was awarded player of the match.
