KL Rahul, who had missed the first ODI of the series for the wedding of his sister, joined the team and batted at no.4 for the Indian team in the second ODI. However, it was later revealed that the vice-captain of the Indian limited-overs side had suffered a hamstring injury and was ruled out of the third and final ODI and the subsequent T20I series.

This meant that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), in its latest announcement on February 14, 2022, revealed that Rishabh Pant has been made the vice-captain of the Indian T20I team for the three T20Is against West Indies, which will be played on February 16, 18 and 20 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
