Virat Kohli needs to return to his old self and play his natural game to get out of this ongoing rut opined former Sri Lanka captain Sanath Jayasuriya. The former India captain has been named in the Indian squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022.

Virat Kohli has been in terrible form for the last three years which has become worse in the last year or so. Though he hasn’t scored a century since November 2019, he was at least contributing with half-centuries and important scores.

But recently, that has dried up as well and despite Kohli’s best efforts, his form has dwindled rapidly, which was evident in the England tour recently and also previously in the IPL 2022.

The upcoming Asia Cup 2022 match will be a special one for Virat Kohli as this will be his 100th T20I match, making him only the second Indian batter to reach this milestone after Rohit Sharma, who had played 132 matches thus far, the most by any cricketer in the T20I format.

I Advise Him Not To Forget His Natural Game: Sanath Jayasuriya To Virat Kohli

Speaking on his form, former Sri Lanka captain Sanath Jayasuriya opined that Kohli has enough steam and class in him to turn things around, possibly in the Asia Cup 2022.

“Not only Kohli, every player has to go through this kind of weak phase in his career. Kohli is a world-class batsman and is expected to end the drought of the century soon. Despite this weak phase, I advise him not to forget his natural game. The Asia Cup starting from August 27 will be interesting,” Jayasuriya said.

The Sri Lankan star did not pick any clear winner for the Asia Cup 2022 and said all the teams are having balanced and strong teams this time.

“India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are all four teams in balance and no single team can be considered as the favourite to become the champion this time. All of them have got lot of match winners,” said Jayasuriya.

The Asia Cup begins on August 27 with India and Pakistan clashing in Dubai on August 28.
