Almost every player aspires to play Test cricket for their country, regardless of how many ODI or T20 games they play. The objective is not to never give up, even though some people receive chances and some people don’t.

Avesh Khan now hopes to represent the country in Test matches after accumulating 35 wickets in this Ranji Trophy season. Avesh Khan dismissed four Andhra Pradesh batters during the Madhya Pradesh-Andhra Pradesh Ranji Trophy match, advancing MP one step closer to defending their crown.

Avesh Khan believes that his performances will make it easier for him to go back to the national team. He has played for India in five ODIs and 15 T20 Internationals since making his debut.

The athlete revealed details of his conversation with head coach Rahul Dravid and said that he would soon be chosen. Even though it’s tough to predict when Avesh would be fit to play for India in the longest format, there’s a potential he might rejoin the T20 squad.

The 26-year-old pacer, who had an outstanding performance with Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League last season, has since become a fixture for Madhya Pradesh in local competitions. With 36 dismissals under his belt in seven games, he now leads the team in wickets taken in the current Ranji Trophy competition.

“Performing is in my hand and selection for India is not”: Avesh Khan

Avesh is currently considering a return to the Indian team. In an interview with the Indian Express, the bowler revealed that he was unlucky to be left out due to illness, but that he is now looking for a Test slot.

“Twice I was ruled out because I was not feeling well. People might judge that on a few occasions, I went expensive but in today’s cricket 6 out of ten times, bowlers have a bad day. I’m not complaining or giving excuses but that’s the truth,” Avesh Khan said.

“Now, I have forgotten everything; instead I’m living in the present. When selection happens it will happen. Performing is in my hand and selection is not. So I have stopped thinking about it,”  Avesh Khan stated in response to India’s call-up.

Speaking about his Ranji Trophy performance, he said, “I have played for India with the white ball but I want to represent the Indian Test team and for that, I’m working hard. I knew I needed to step up for MP because how many times do we see a team trailing and bouncing to win matches in Ranji Trophy?

“If I’m good I need to stand up and take the responsibility of taking my team through. It was a complete team effort and we played like a team today.”

On February 9, the hosts will play Australia in the opening Test in a four-match series, returning to the longest format of the game.
