Pakistan National Cricket Team captain Babar Azam after a thrilling draw against the Pat Cummins-led Australia National Cricket Team in the second Test said that they did not plan a lot about the chase heading into the final day.
The first two games of the three-match Test series between Pakistan and Australia have been ended in a draw. In the second Test at the National Stadium, Karachi, Pakistan were given a huge target of 506 runs to chase, however, they were able to score 443 runs for 7 wickets with the help of amazing performance by Babar Azam (196), Mohammad Rizwan (104) and Abdullah Shafique (96).
During the post-match ceremony, Babar lauded Rizwan for his amazing innings that helped Pakistan save the game. He said:
“The way Rizwan played in the end was outstanding as well to save the game. To be honest, we did not plan a lot about the chase, we thought that we will play positive. I thought to play for as long as I could as the team needed it from me.”
He added that the plan of the team was just to bat session by session. The No.1 ranked ODI batsman said:
“The plan was simple that we have to bat throughout, session by session., We wanted to build partnerships and continue it. The team showed effort and it was great. We had the belief and we stuck to that. We had complete focus that we will play how many ever sessions we have to.”

Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan after the match praised the Australian team for playing with confidence till the very end. Rizwan also revealed that he and Babar had planned to go for a chase. He elaborated:
“Obviously, batting five sessions against a top team is a big thing. The way Australia put up an effort, it was outstanding as well. They kept playing with confidence. Babar and I had planned to go for the chase but it was an old ball and we had to play through. The plan was simple, we have to play five sessions. Abdullah Shafique and Babar played brilliantly.”
“Everyone knows that Babar Azam is a top-class player and I do not need to say a lot about him. It was not easy to bat two days and Australia always plays to win.”
