Sri Lanka go head to head against Australia in a two-match Test series in Galle starting with the first Test from June 29. Australia lost a Test series 0-3 in 2016 the last time they came to play Test cricket on the Lankan shores. Many of the players who played in that series are a part of this series as well.

Cricket Australia has named a 17-member squad while the Lankan Cricket Board has announced an 18-member squad for the two-match Test series. Glenn Maxwell is making a comeback to Test cricket after five years while the Lankans have recalled their veterans Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews.

For Australia, all eyes will be on Nathan Lyon who was a part of the side that lost the Test series in 2016. Lyon has taken 35 wickets against Sri Lanka in his career. He recently spoke about the insights he received from Herath that helped him change his style of bowling in Asian conditions.

“What do you do that I do not do?” I asked. And he added, “I know you guys will mess up if I put the ball in one spot,” he said those things. That is a really basic mentality. What I learned from it was that the key to success for everyone is being able to outlast their defense long enough to create opportunities. That is what Rangana Herath excelled at. He repeatedly tested our defence, and he was rewarded for it” Lyon said in his conversation with Cricket Australia.

The series is a part of the ICC World Test Championship. The Aussies are currently topping the table with 72 points from 8 matches with a percentage point of 75. The hosts are placed fourth on the table with 40 points from six matches. Both the teams won their previous test series heading into this one. The Aussies defeated Pakistan and Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by 1-0 margins respectively.
