Chepauk Super Gillies Cricket Team News
Chepauk Super Gillies have been playing in the TNPL since the inaugural season in 2016. Their campaign began in a solid fashion as they were the table-toppers in the first season. They went to qualify for the final before losing to now-defunct Tuti Patriots.
In 2017, the Super Gillies made amends for losing the final in the previous season. They qualified for the final once again and beat defending champions Tuti Patriots in the title-decider to clinch their maiden TNPL title.
In 2018, they failed to impress and finished at the bottom of the points table with just a solitary win from 7 games. In 2019, they bounced back and went on to win the tournament for the second time. They finished the league stage at the second spot in the points table before beating Dindigul Dragons in the first qualifier as well as final to become the first team to win TNPL twice.
TNPL was cancelled in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2021, the Super Gillies won the TNPL for a record-extending third time. They beat Trichy Grand Cholas by 8 runs in the final to win the tournament.
The Super Gillies and Lyca Kovai Kings were declared joint winners in 2022 after the match was washed out. In 2023, the Super Gillies bowed out of the tournament at the league stage after managing only 3 wins from 7 games. In 2024, they qualified for the playoffs but could not make it to the final.
