India ended 2022 number two on the WTC points table. They also ranked second in the ICC Test rankings with 3690 points. After starting 2022 in a precarious position losing back to back Test matches, the side beat Bangladesh 2-0 in a Test series to stay alive in the WTC race.

While they notched up some memorable wins, they also faced some disappointing losses. However, they picked themselves up with time in hand to still stay alive in the WTC final race.
