2022 was another disappointing year for the Indian cricket team in terms of ICC tournaments. This year Team India played two major T20 global events and failed to win even one of them. The Asia Cup in September was followed by the T20 World Cup in October-November and India could not make the knockouts of both tournaments.

India might end the year as the number one-ranked T20I side but they did not play like the number one side throughout the year. They won bilateral ties at home and overseas and flopped on the international stage.

They failed to make it to the knockouts of the Asia Cup. The sie lost to Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super 4 stage to bow out of the tournament. They were the defending champions of the Asia Cup having won the title in 2018 but failed to defend the title.

Adelaide is one of India’s happy hunting grounds in Australia. The Men in Blue tasted some sweet victories at this venue across formats. However against England in the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final, the side came crashing down and succumbed to a heavy defeat that put India out of the tournament.

After the openers fell cheaply, Virat Kohli (50) and Hardik Pandya (68) took India to 168/6. On a good batting wicket in Adelaide, the total was below par.

England openers Jos Buttler (80*) and Alex Hales (86*) proved that right as they cantered through to a win inside 16 overs. The batters hit a total of 23 boundaries in the innings and decimated the Indian bowlers all around the park.

The Indian bowlers not managing to pick a single wicket summed up their performance in the match. England eventually went onto become the T20 World Cup champions.
