Ashes 2023: "It Will Be Even More Interesting When They Come To India" - Aakash Chopra On England’s Aggressive Style Of Cricket

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra said that England’s aggressive brand of cricket called BazBall’s future will be decided after the ongoing Ashes and the away series against India. Aakash Chopra said that it will be interesting to see how England’s batters approach Indian bowlers on turning tracks.
England have adopted an aggressive style of cricket in the longer format of the game since Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum took over as captain and head coach, respectively. The Ben Stokes-led team have been successful with their approach so far, losing only two Tests out of their 11 matches.

It Is Easy To Implement It As Well At The Start – Aakash Chopra
In a YouTube video, Aakash Chopra discussed England’s ‘Bazball’ approach and said that it will be tough to continue with their attacking style of play against quality opposition.
“Brendon McCullum has said he doesn’t agree with ‘Bazball’, that it’s not a philosophy, but the philosophy has changed. England’s playing style has changed. Thinking about a change is easy and it is easy to implement it as well at the start because you have the conviction,” Chopra said.
“The question comes when you lose. Then you feel whether it is right or wrong. This entire Ashes will tell how far their philosophy goes and it will be even more interesting when they come to India, that whether they will be able to continue with this philosophy there,” he further added.
The England team last toured India in 2021 for a four-match series. They started the series with a win but went on to lose the remaining three games. It will be interesting to see how their counterattack works against Indian spinners on turning tracks next year.

If You Get Success, That Becomes Your Brand Of Cricket – Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra highlighted that England’s poor performance at the 2015 World Cup forced them to change their approach to limited-overs cricket under the leadership of Eoin Morgan.
“At times, when you are at the lowest ebb, you can only go in one direction. Then you say that you have tried everything, so can try this one as well. If you get success, that becomes your brand of cricket. I think that’s what happened after the 2015 World Cup debacle,” he continued.
“England said they will play a different style of ODI cricket and there will be a complete commitment to that, they will play the same way whether they win or lose, even if they get all out for 150,” he concluded.
England won their first ODI World Cup title in 2019 under Eoin Morgan’s captaincy. The Jos Buttler-led team went on to win their second T20 World Cup title in 2022. Akash Chopra concluded by saying that Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum extended the same approach to red-ball cricket.
