A few massive updates have emerged regarding the upcoming Asia Cup 2027 tournament. As per the latest updates, the tournament, which was held in T20I format last year, is likely to be in ODI format.
As of now, Bangladesh remains the nation that will have to carry the onus to organize the multi-format tournament. If the claims are to be believed, then the tournament is likely to be arranged between June and July, in 2027.
Bangladesh will host the Asia Cup in 2027
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been elected as the host to arrange the 2027 Asia Cup after last year’s tournament, which was hosted in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) across two cities: Dubai and Abu Dhabi. India emerged as the champions in that edition, defeating arch-rival Pakistan in the final.
According to the latest updates, unlike last year’s Asia Cup, which was held through the T20 International format, the upcoming event could be in the 50-over format. The opener of the 2027 Asia Cup is likely to start on June 18, with the final on July 4. An official announcement regarding this is yet to come.

Controversy between India and Bangladesh
The next edition of the tournament can be more interesting and can fetch more attention because of the recent tension between India and Bangladesh. Ahead of the 2027 T20 World Cup, there was a dramatic situation between the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The BCB refused to travel to India to play the group phase of the T20 World Cup, citing safety and security concerns for their players and staff. Throughout the whole controversial episode, Bangladesh got support from the Pakistan government and the Pakistan Cricket Board led by Mohsin Naqvi.
The support from Pakistan, however, proved ineffective as the Council led by Jay Shah took a strict step against Bangladesh, eliminating them from the flagship tournament. Scotland joined the title race in place of the Tiger Brigade.
Mustafizur Rahman’s snub from the Indian Premier League (IPL) was believed to be one of the main reasons; BCB officials did not want to travel to India as part of their protest against the BCCI. Apart from the cricket-related issues, there were geopolitical tensions between India and Bangladesh, which fueled the controversy.
Amid the controversy, Team India’s participation in the upcoming Asia Cup became uncertain as Bangladesh is the host nation.
Will Team India travel to Bangladesh to play the 2027 Asia Cup?
The situation between BCB and BCCI is expected to improve as a newly elected governing body is now in charge of the Bangladesh Cricket Board. The current ruling board of BCB has extended its hand to restore its relationship with Indian cricket.
Like last edition, 6 teams are expected to feature in the upcoming campaign. So far, neither of the participating boards has officially confirmed the dates and venues for the tournament.
In the near future, it will be interesting to see the stance of the BCCI after the controversial episode. Last season, India won the trophy but did not receive the cup as Mohsin Naqvi flew it with the trophy, as the Indian cricket team refused to receive the cup from his hands.
