The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has labelled the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja’s 4-nation T20I super series proposal as a “short-term commercial initiative”.

Earlier, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja said that he would propose the 4-nation T20I competition involving India, Pakistan, Australia and England to the International Cricket Council.

“Hello, fans. Will propose to the ICC a Four Nations T20i Super Series involving Pak Ind Aus Eng to be played every year, to be hosted on a rotation basis by these four. A separate revenue model with profits to be shared on a percentage basis with all ICC members think we have a winner,” Raja had said in January.

Speaking to Reuters news agency Jay Shah responded to Ramiz Raja’s proposal and said that the responsibility of the BCCI will be to safeguard bilateral cricket at home.

“With the IPL window expanding and the ICC (global) events every year in the cycle, our primary responsibility is to safeguard bilateral cricket at home, with emphasis on test cricket,” Jay Shah said

Jay Shah added that he wants to see cricket in Olympics. The BCCI secretary also said that the chief of cricket bodies across the world should focus on the expansion of cricket and it should be given priority over any “short-term commercial initiative.”

“I am also looking forward to seeing cricket at the Olympics, as that will help the game grow. Expansion of the sport is a challenge that our game faces and we must prioritise it over any short-term commercial initiative.”
