Former South African cricketer hailed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni as different from others and said that his leadership is integral. He also said that for him Yashasvi Jaiswal is the standout player for him in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

MS Dhoni has been exceptional as a leader in the ongoing IPL 2023. The keeper-batter has guided the side to 7 wins from 13 matches and they are one of the hot favourites to qualify for the playoffs. They only need one win to book their berth and it’s fair to say that day is around the corner.

Graeme Smith said that playing at home is a big advantage for MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings. He pointed out how the captain has groomed young players and his calmness to keep the same team makes him different. Speaking to CricketNext, he said:

IPL 2023 | India National Cricket Team | Chennai Super Kings (CSK) | Delhi Capitals (DC) | Gujarat Titans (GT) | Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) | Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) | Mumbai Indians (MI) | Punjab Kings (PBKS) | Rajasthan Royals (RR) | Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) | SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH)

“Dhoni’s leadership is integral. This season, he has made some impact with the bat. Playing at home in Chepauk (Chennai) is a huge strength for MS. CSK have a great combination of the ones who know how to bat well and also the spinners who have performed consistently well for the team. He (Dhoni) has groomed a lot of young bowlers and tactically he knows how to use the likes of Pathirana,”

“In today’s world, there’s so much information available but the calmness with which he (Dhoni) keeps his decision-making very simple without any chopping and changing of the team, without any panic, which is usually seen with some other teams, makes him different. He and the coaches figure out the right combinations and they really back those.”

DC vs CSK: “Yashasvi Jaiswal is the one who stood out for me this season,” says Graeme Smith

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been one of the best young Indian batters in this edition of the league. The Southpaw has taken the league by storm and has smashed 575 runs so far in the 12 innings.

Graeme Smith hailed Yashasvi Jaiswal as one of the standout players this season. He also highlighted that he’s keen to see young spinners developed in the league as they’ll be a great asset for the Indian team. He said:

“Yashasvi Jaiswal is the one who stood out for me this season. I am looking for the next Indian dynamic spin option. There are spinners who are on top of their game and they have been in the game for quite a long time and even though they are not going anywhere, we need to keep an eye on the youngsters.

The spin options, especially leg-spinners are an asset for Indian cricket so that’s an area I am keen to see how it develops in a couple of years as it needs a little work. But, so far, who has stood out is definitely Jaiswal.”

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be next seen in action when they will take on Delhi Capitals in their next game on Saturday (20th May) whereas Yashasvi Jaiswal will be seen in action when Rajasthan Royals will take on Punjab Kings on Friday (19th May).
