England National Cricket Team all-rounder and Test captain, Ben Stokes, is mighty impressed with the performance of the India National Cricket Team right-arm pacer Mohammed Shami in the ongoing edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup.

Shami has delivered three consecutive match-winning performances since his inclusion in the playing XI in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. In just three matches in the competition, Shami has picked 14 wickets, including a four-wicket haul and two five-wicket hauls, with the latest coming against Sri Lanka.

With his exceptional performances, Shami has become the leading wicket-taker for India in the history of the ODI World Cups with 45 wickets in his bag and he has played just 14 innings so far.

Speaking at a press conference in Ahmedabad, Stokes said that Shami is a fantastic bowler. He said:

“I’ve played a lot of cricket against Shami, he’s a fantastic bowler and I think we watched him last night and they brought a stat up in a World Cup is quite phenomenal actually.”

The right-arm Indian quick bowled exceptional lines and lengths to Ben Stokes during the IND vs ENG clash and rattled his stumps with a beauty.

He’s been obviously the bowler of the World Cup – Ben Stokes on Mohammed Shami

The England red-ball captain labeled Shami as the “bowler of the World Cup” and said that he always finds a way to get wickets. He said:

“He’s been obviously the bowler of the World Cup, I think. I don’t think he’s played every game but the way in which he’s, in every situation and every game he’s come in it’s been incredible the amount of wickets he’s taken. He’s just found a way to be able to get wicket[s].”

He also hailed Shami for his performance against England in the World Cup.

“Obviously that spell against us was one of many he’s had this World Cup. Sometimes you just say to the opposition that you’re very good and Mohamed Shami’s been very good throughout this whole World Cup,” said Stokes.

Ben Stokes will be next seen in action when Team England lock horns with Team Australia on Saturday, November 4, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
