Faf du Plessis Adds His Name To The List Of BBL 12 Draft Nominees

Former South Africa National Cricket Team skipper and current Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis has added his name to the list of BBL 12 overseas draft nominees.

Du Plessis has so far played only one game in the Big Bash League (BBL) and that came back in 2012. He played for Melbourne Renegades under the leadership of Aaron Finch on December 7, 2012, at the Docklands Stadium, Melbourne.

Also, Du Plessis managed to score 14 runs off 17 balls in the match before being dismissed by James Faulkner. Aaron Finch had a smashed a century in that game for Melbourne Renegades to help his team chase down the target and win by 8 wickets against legendary leg-spinner Shane Warne’s Melbourne Stars.

Meanwhile, Du Plessis’ nomination for the new BBL overseas draft is an indication that he will be available for at least a portion of the upcoming season of the Big Bash League. Also, Du Plessis is expected to feature in the platinum category, which has a salary of $AUD340,000.

Notably, overseas players must nominate their price category and their availability for the T20 league ahead of the draft and it is mandatory for the players to be available for a portion of the tournament.

Along With Faf du Plessis, Rilee Rossouw, David Wiese, Marchant de Lange Announced As First Batch Of Nominees For Draft

Along with the former South Africa captain, Du Plessis, South Africa batter Rilee Rossouw, former South Africa and current Namibia all-rounder David Wiese, and former South Africa and current Somerset pacer Marchant de Lange were announced as the first batch of nominees for the draft, on Thursday, which is scheduled to take place in August.

Meanwhile, star Namibia all-rounder David Wiese, who had represented South Africa in international cricket, has never played a game in the Big Bash League. However, he has a plethora of experience in T20 cricket as he has played 294 T20 games and is a regular participant in the PSL, CPL, and the Vitality Blast.

Similarly, De Lange has never played a Big Bash League game also his last international cricket game came in 2016 and since then he has been playing English domestic cricket.

South Africa batter Rossouw, who recently received a South Africa T20I recall ahead of the tour of England, has played seven matches for Melbourne Renegades in the BBL in the 2020-21 season.
