Flop Test XI of 2022. While there were star performers in Tests in 2022 with the likes of batters Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne, England’s Joe Root, and Pakistan’s Babar Azam enjoying success in 2022, there were many batters who failed in 2022 with KL Rahul, David Warner, Aiden Markram being some prominent names.

On the other hand, while some bowlers like Australia’s Pat Cummins, India’s trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ravichandran Ashwin who tasted success in 2022, some others like Australia’s pacer Josh Hazlewood failed to come up with good performances in 2022.

KL Rahul, the Indian opener and stand-in skipper for the Bangladesh Tests scored fifty (50) in his 1st innings of 2022 against South Africa but performed poorly in the next matches against South Africa and Bangladesh. In 4 Tests in 2022, he had managed only 135 runs in 7 innings averaging a dismal 19.28. He warrants a place in the flop Test XI of 2022.

David Warner (Australia)

David Warner, the Australian opener, had scored 371 runs in 10 Tests averaging 20.61 and managing only 2 fifties.  His last fifty came against Pakistan (51) while he had scores of 25, 10*, 5, 24, 5, 48, 21,28, 0, and 3 in the Tests against Sri Lanka, West Indies, and South Africa. David Warner averaged 20.61 in 2022 in Tests, which is below his career average of 45. He warrants a place in the flop Test XI of 2022.

Ajinkya Rahane (India)

Ajinkya Rahane, the veteran Indian middle order batter had a poor 2022, following which he was axed from the Test team and wasn’t considered for the Sri Lanka home Tests and the Bangladesh Test ongoing tour.

The ex-captain had amassed only 68 runs with three single-digit scores and a 58 averaging 17 in 2022 in 2 Tests against Proteas. He warrants a place in the flop Test XI of 2022.

Dawid Malan (England)

Dawid Malan was recalled in Tests after a 3-year exile in 2021, where he scored 308 runs averaging 43.5 in 5 Tests. But he had a dismal 2022, averaging only 10.5 managing only 42 runs in 2 Tests against Australia in January, and wasn’t in the playing XI for the rescheduled 5th Test against India, Tests against New Zealand, and Pakistan.

Aged 34, Dawid Malan’s time in a Test shirt might now have come and gone. He warrants a place in the flop Test XI of 2022.

Aiden Markram (South Africa)

Aiden Markram has scored only 171 runs in 6 Tests in 2022 averaging 15.55. He is yet to score even a fifty with 42 against New Zealand his highest score. Apart from that, he didn’t score more than 31 in Tests against India, the Kiwis, and England.

The 28-year-old off-spinner picked his first Test scalps though in 2022. Both came against New Zealand. He deserves to be in the flop Test XI of 2022.

Lahiru Thirimanne (Sri Lanka)

The Sri Lankan batter deserves to be in the flop Test XI of 2022 as he scored only 25 runs averaging 6.25 in 2 Tests-4 innings.  He scored 17,0, 8, and 0 in the 4 innings of the 2 Tests against India.

Sam Billings (England) (WK)

England skipper Sam Billings has featured in 3 Tests- all of which came in 2022. He managed only 66 runs averaging 22 with scores of 29, 1 (against Australia), and 36 (against India). He didn’t get a chance in the last few Tests with England’s Ben Foakes and Ollie Pope getting chances. He warrants a place in the flop Test XI of 2022.

Roston Chase (West Indies)

West Indies’ all-rounder Roston Chase deserves to be in the flop Test XI of 2022 for he picked 3 scalps in 2 Tests which came at an average of 104.33. He also scored 115 runs averaging 28.75 in 2022. But apart from 55, his scores read 13,34, and 13 against Australia.  On the bowling front, he returned with figures of 0/140, 1/31, 0/ 117, and 2/25 in the two Tests against Australia.

Josh Hazlewood (Australia)

Josh Hazlewood deserves to be in the flop Test XI of 2022 for he picked only 2 scalps in as many Tests averaging 83. He was wicketless against Pakistan in the Rawalpindi Test but picked up 2 wickets against the Windies in Perth.

Sajid Khan (Pakistan)

Sajid Khan, the spinner of Pakistan picked only 4 wickets in 3 Tests averaging a high 119.25 in the 3 Tests against Australia. He conceded 2/167 in Karachi in the 2nd Test where Australian batters scored runs freely against him. He warrants a place in the flop Test XI of 2022.

Hasan Ali (Pakistan)

Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali deserves to be in the flop Test XI of 2022 for picking only 5 scalps averaging 67.4 in 4 Tests in 2022. He scored only 67 runs in 7 innings averaging 9.57. He warrants a place in the flop Test XI of 2022.
