Pakistan lost to England in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 last month. The Men in Green were defeated by five wickets at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on November 13. Veteran Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik has admitted that he knew he wouldn’t be selected for the T20 World Cup during the Asia Cup.

The Babar Azam-led team had lost their first two matches against India and Zimbabwe, and they needed the Netherlands to defeat South Africa in order to qualify for the semi-finals. In their losses, the side’s batting order weaknesses were exposed, and many criticized the PCB selection committee for not including Shoaib Malik in the squad.

I Will Always Remain There For Babar Azam – Shoaib Malik

Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik has not officially retired from cricket, and his last international appearance was a T20I against Bangladesh in November last year. Malik spoke about a pre-tournament conversation with Babar Azam about his place in the international set-up almost a month after the World Cup.

“I don’t know what’s the inside news, but Babar told me during the Asia Cup that the same team will travel for the World Cup. He was transparent in communication and he remains in good term with me. I consider him as my younger brother, and I’m always ready to help him out. I will always remain there for him,” Malik said on Cricket Pakistan.

“Main aisa nahi hu ki agar main kisi vajah se team me nahi aaya, toh main naaraz ho jau ya muh bana lu. Main aisa bilkul nahi hu. Main karunga bhi nahi aisa. Meri duaa hai uske saath, main chahta hu vo grow kare aur Pakistan team ko, aur uski performances ko top of the table rakhe,” Malik further said.

The 40-year-old has represented Pakistan in 35 Test matches, 287 ODI matches, and 124 T20Is. Malik scored more than 11,000 international runs with the bat and took more than 200 wickets with the ball.
