Rohit Sharma showed that experience matters just as much as skill during the ongoing IPL 2026 clash between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Actually, Rohit Sharma fooled Kuldeep Yadav and KL Rahul into taking a review they didn’t need. The hilarious and clever moment unfolded in the ninth over when the Delhi Capitals spinner Kuldeep Yadav was bowling to Rohit.

The Rohit Sharma-Kuldeep Sharma inccident

The hosts have appealed for a caught-behind after the Mumbai Indians opener attempted a sweep shot at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Rohit pretended to walk off the field, leaving the fielding side convinced that the ball had nicked his bat.

However, the umpire refused, prompting Kuldeep, KL Rahul, and DC captain Axar Patel to take the DRS. But the replay showed the ball had completely missed the bat, and Rohit survived. Delhi Capitals had just wasted a review, and Rohit couldn’t hide his smile.

Rohit Sharma opens up about his clever tactic against Kuldeep Yadav

During the innings break, Rohit shared how his playful tactic worked perfectly because he knows Kuldeep’s habits well. Kuldeep often takes DRS reviews quickly on close calls, and Rohit made the most of his habit to burn one of DC’s reviews in the ongoing clash.

He said that it was really fun to burn DC’s review, but he was disappointed that he could not convert his brilliant start into the big knock. He was removed by Axar for 35 runs off 26 balls.

Rohit said during the mid-inning break as quoted by Cricbuzz: “I know Kuldeep pretty well; he likes to take the DRS. So, yeah, I was just trying a little bit of luck there. But again, I got out pretty much in the next over. I couldn't carry on. I wanted to take the game as deep as possible but couldn't do so. But yeah, a little bit of fun there with the guys out there.”

The MI opener further added, “No, no, nothing like that. I was just trying to be; I was just trying to walk there. So, I know Kuldeep; he likes to take the DRS as soon as there is a 50-50 chance. So, I was just trying my luck there. It turned out in our favor, but like I said, I got out in the next over. Wanted to bat deep, but couldn't do so.”

Ravi Shastri and Pommie Mbangwa amazed by Rohit Sharma’s playful tactics and game awareness

Well, Rohit’s clever move left everyone stunned. After his game awareness fooled Delhi Capitals, former India coach Ravi Shastri praised Rohit’s cleverness on air, while former Zimbabwe pacer Pommie Mbangwa hailed Rohit’s presence of mind and playful tactics.

Pommie Mbangwa said on on-air during the match: “Rohit's walking back, and he's halfway to the fence. The beauty was when he started laughing once they went upstairs. He's laughing because, ‘I got you and I made you take it. You are going to lose a review'.”

On the other hand, Ravi Shastri said: “How good was Rohit Sharma there. He has foxed them into taking a review by walking five yards towards the square leg. We have to see that again. That's brilliant from Rohit Sharma.”
