The senior India National Cricket Team off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has made a hilarious remark about his teammate Cheteshwar Pujara, who was dropped from India’s red-ball setup after the ICC World Test Championship Final against Australia National Cricket Team.

The 35-year-old Pujara is rated as one of the best Test batters to play for India. He has represented the side in 103 Test matches and has scored 7195 runs at a good average of 43.60, including 19 tons and 35 fifties.

He was expected to deliver a good performance for India in the ICC World Test Championship Final at the Oval, but he failed with scores of 14 & 27. Following his underwhelming batting show he was left out of the squad for the West Indies tour and Shubman Gill batted at the No.3 position for India.

After the WTC Final, Pujara played 2 First-class matches for West Zone before traveling to England for his stint with Sussex. So far he has been highly impressive in the Royal London One-Day Cup as he has hit 2 centuries and a half-century.

I guess Cheteshwar Pujara is going to get a British passport – Ravichandran Ashwin

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Ravichandran Ashwin talked about Pujara. He hilariously said that the veteran batter will soon get a British passport for his brilliant batting performances in England.

“And I guess Pujara is going to get a British passport. He has been playing in England that much and making lots of runs there,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

Meanwhile, Team India’s next international assignment is an away series against Ireland National Cricket Team. The Men In Blue are set to tour Ireland for a short three-match T20I series. The matches are scheduled to be held at the Malahide in Dublin on August 18, 20 and 23.

Jasprit Bumrah has been named as the skipper of the new-look squad for the Ireland tour in the absence of Hardik Pandya, who has been rested for the tour alongside his deputy Suryakumar Yadav. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who will be leading India in Asian Games 2023, will be serving as the deputy of Bumrah.
