IND vs WI: India’s Playing XI For West Indies 1st Test- India Tour Of West Indies 2023. Team India takes on West Indies in a full-fledged series comprising of two Test matches, three ODIs, and five T20Is. The first IND vs WI Test match will be played in Dominica from July 12-16. Many of the new players of this Indian squad have not played in Dominica so far in their careers.

The BCCI announced a full-strength squad with Rohit Sharma retained as captain. Ajinkya Rahane was elevated to vice-captaincy while Virat Kohli is also a part of the squad. There are reports that Ishan Kishan will also make his Test debut in Dominica. Selectors preferred S Bharat over him in the WTC final, a move that did not pay rich dividends.

India’s seam bowling outfit in the absence of Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah looks a bit weak. Mohd Siraj will lead the attack with Navdeep Saini, Shardul Thakur, and Jaydev Unadkar for company. Mukesh Kumar is also a part of the squad.

Rohit Sharma will open the batting and also lead the side. The WTC final was his 50th Test match for India. He has led India in seven matches winning four and losing three which included the WTC final. It will be interesting to see if he wins the first Test.

Yashasvi Jaiswal

Jaiswal is expected to open the batting with Rohit Sharma. This will be his Test debut for India. He was seen practicing hard at the nets and speaking to the likes of Kohli and Rohit. He had a breakout season in IPL 2023 helped him get his maiden Test call-up.

Shubman Gill

Gill is now a regular for India in Test cricket. He is also picked in the ODI and T20I squads against the Windies. Gill scored 13 and 18 in the two innings of the WTC final. He would like to make this opportunity count. He will slot in at three in the absence of Pujara.

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli will slot in at four. He scored 14 and 49 in the two innings of the WTC final. The former Indian skipper has a good record against West Indies with five fifties and two hundreds in 14 matches. Kohli ahs already scored 360 runs in five Tests this year with a best of 186.

Ajinkya Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane earned a recall for the WTC final and scored 89 and 46 in the two innings once again cementing his place in the Test side. He was also chosen as the vice-captain for the series. Rahane will slot in at six.

Kihsn is expected to make his Test debut in the first Test. The Indian management chose KS Bharat over him for the WYC final. However, now the southpaw is primed for his Test debut. He is seen as a like-for-like replacement for Rishabh Pant.

Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja will slot in at seven. Over the last three four years, Jadeja has been very consistent with the bat. He has taken wickets wherever he has played. Jadeja is the number one-ranked Test all-rounder at the moment.

Ravichandran Ashwin

Ashwin will slot in at eight. He is the number-one-ranked Test bowler at the moment. He has scored four of his five Test hundreds against West Indies and has also picked up 60 wickets against the opponents.

Shardul Thakur

Thakur can slot in at nine. He extends India’s batting lineup that bit longer. In the absence of Mohammed Shami, he can be a wicket-taking option up front with the new ball. Thakur played in the WTC final scoring 51 against Australia in the first innings.

Siraj will slot in at 10. He also played in the WTC final against Australia but could not make an impact in the game. In the absence of Shami, he is the seniormost pacer in the team having played 19 Test matches.

Mukesh Kumar

Mukesh Kumar can conclude the XI for India. If he plays, this will be his Test debut for India. He is being seen as a long-term Test bowler by former Indian cricket experts. He picked seven wickets in 10 games in IPL 2023.
