Indian spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja achieved a unique feat for the first time in 49 years in Indian cricket. The two spinners became the first left-arm spin pair to take seven or more wickets together which has not happened in Indian cricket almost in 50 years. India won the first ODI by five wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
Kuldeep Yadav took 4/6 in just 3 overs while Jadeja took 3 for 37 as they took seven wickets for just 43 to bowl out West Indies for a paltry 114. Hardik Pandya, Mukesh Kumar and Shardul Thakur took one each. This happened after India won the toss and put West Indies into bat.

India decided to open with Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan. Gill’s poor run of form in the West Indies continued as he was dismissed for just 7. Kishan scored a quickfire 52 and was dismissed by left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie. Motie and Yannic Cariah took three wickets together in quick succession.
Rohit Sharma walked out to bat at number seven and scored an unbeaten 12 off 19 balls to take India home. Along with him was Jadeja unbeaten on 16 off 21 balls as the senior players took the side home. This was the first time when Virat Kohli did not bat in the innings despite India losing four or more wickets.

Pitch Was Spinning A Bit: Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep spoke after the game about him and Jadeja bowling in tandem and taking seven wickets together. The left-arm chinaman was chosen over Yuzvendra Chahal in the first ODI.
“I thought it will be a seaming paradise, we are happy we got 7 wickets from our side. It was spinning a bit, and there was bounce as well. It’s always good to have competition, we just try to work together,” Kuldeep said after the match.
Though India won the match comfortably in the end, their batting performance will be closely monitored. The second ODI will be played in Barbados on July 29.
