Aakash Chopra feels that Sanju Samson is unlikely to be selected in the second ODI against West Indies in Barbados on Saturday, July 29. India won the first ODI by five wickets and are leading the series 1-0.

Previewing the second ODI on his Youtube channel, Chopra said that the Indian team is unlikely to make any changes to the playing XI since only one match has been played. He further predicted that Samson might not play the second ODI.

“There might be a question in your mind that can Sanju play. Sanju Samson will not be able to play now. It is because only one match has happened, you didn’t play him in the first match and you didn’t get Ishan Kishan to bat at No. 4 as well” said Chopra.

Ishan Kishan was originally slotted to bat at four in the first ODI. However, with West Indies getting out cheaply for 114, the team management thought of changing the batting order and opened with Kishan and Gill. The Southpaw scored 52 off 46 balls and made the most of his opportunity in the low-scoring game.

Chopra further said that the management might not be keen to drop Suryakumar Yadav after just one game and despite the furor over Samson’s non-selection in the first ODI, he is unlikely to play the second ODI.

Sanju Samson Might Not Play Despite Social Media Outrage: Aakash Chopra

“You are thinking about Suryakumar Yadav to bat at No. 6 at the moment. So no matter how much outrage is there, this story is not going to fly at this point in time. It is a slightly unfortunate fact that Sanju Samson will not get a chance” Chopra added further.

The former Indian batter suggested the Indian team to bat first and challenge themselves in case they win the toss in the second ODI.

“To challenge yourself, bat first if you win the toss. It might be slightly difficult at the start but how else do you challenge yourself? How will you prepare for the World Cup if you do the easy jobs?”

India lost as many as five wickets while trying to chase 115 in the first ODI with the Windies spinners troubling them. In the end, it was skipper Rohit Sharma (12 off 19) and Ravindra Jadeja (16 off 21) who took India home.
