Former Indian captain Virat Kohli reached a significant milestone during the first innings of the opening Test against the West Indies at Windsor Park in Dominica. Virat Kohli surpassed 8,500 international runs in the longer format of the game, becoming the sixth Indian cricketer to achieve this feat.

The 34-year-old surpassed Virender Sehwag’s tally and became the fifth-highest run-scorer for India in the longer format of the game. Kohli joined the elite list of Indian batters consisting of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, and VVS Laxman.
Sachin Tendulkar was the leading run-getter for India in Test cricket, scoring 15,921 runs in 200 matches with an average of 53.78. Rahul Dravid (13,265 runs), Sunil Gavaskar (10,122 runs), and VVS Laxman (8,781 runs) are the other batters on the top five run-getters list.

India Hammered West Indies In First Test
The Rohit Sharma-led team beat the West Indies by an innings and 141 runs in the series opener on Friday, July 13. India bowled out the opposition for 150 and 130 runs in the two innings of the match. Ravichandran Ashwin ran through opposition batters, picking up 12 wickets in the match.
The Men in Blue posted a mammoth total of 421 runs for the loss of five wickets. Yashasvi Jaiswal (171) and Rohit Sharma (103) added a record-breaking partnership of 229 runs for the first wicket. However, Shubman Gill and Ajinkya Rahane failed to make an impact with the bat.
Team India secured their first points in the World Test Championship (WTC) cycle 2023-2025 with a victory in the Dominica Test. They now have 12 points in the championship with a 100% win percentage in the points table.
The visitors will be hoping to whitewash the two-match series when they take on the Kraigg Brathwaite-led team in the second and final Test match at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, in Trinidad, starting on Thursday, July 20.
